Our stories have power.
I took this picture during a conversation with my spiritual director this month. It was the perfect picture of how unexpected seasons have felt in my own story--a path with an uncertain length and an unknown destination.
It feels like these unexpected seasons are fraught with danger--how will we handle grief, change, loss of identity, suffering?
But they are also a holy invitation: to allow God to undo, release, and renovate our hearts in ways that bring us into his abundant life.
I'm on the final chapters of the book project that you've all helped with, and I'm excited to share the title and an invitation with you today!
The book:
"Not What I Signed Up For: Finding the Strength, Purpose, and Hope to Survive a Season You Didn’t Expect."
Over the past few months, so many of you opened your heart to me and to each other in a way that's sacred, beautiful and encouraging.
It feels like the most important thing we have is our testimony--our own story of entering into an unexpected season and discovering the treasures God gives us, even in the midst of pain. And I want your story to bless everyone who reads this book.
I'm now accepting story submissions now to be featured in the book and am so excited to share your wisdom!
Here is the prompt:
imagine meeting someone on the journey of life and knowing they were about to enter into an unexpected season. What wisdom would you share from your own story?
The work of sharing your story can be a powerful and redeeming journey, not just for you, but for everyone who gets to read it. Of course, if your story is selected, you'll receive a free copy of the book and bible study and the joy of knowing that you can bless and strengthen so many others who will benefit from what you've learned.
Please check out the link to learn more and submit your story:

May hits us like a freight train. So much of our perspective is shaped by our own story. What we embrace, what we reject, what we believe are a response to the good or a reaction to the bad that we ourselves have experienced in life. One of the great shaping influences in my own life is being the middle-big sister to two brothers--my brother Matt, 14 months younger--and my brother Steve, who joined our family in 1983, when I was seven and he was a toddler. He was adopted into our military family, the beloved caboose in our...
